The Village of Salem in 1692 feared witchcraft and believed that the magic was only possible through the help of demons. And yet many members of the community still engaged with folk magic in their daily lives.

About the Event
In this class, we will learn all about the folk magic that occurred in Salem, from witch cakes to poppets to oomancy and more. We'll explore the origins of these traditions, investigate how they came into play during the Salem Witch Trials, and practice a 17th-century form of divination together.

Maya Rook of Illusory Time is a cultural historian, college educator, and yoga instructor living in Mid-Coast Maine.
